Book Description: True love doesn’t just happen, notes professional matchmaker Patti Novak. You have to work for it–and want it. Forget eight-minute speed dates or online dating sites with twenty-page questionnaires that promise a scientifically calculated perfect match. The fact that you both like golf, stamp collecting, and pizza with anchovies is great, but it won’t mean a thing if you don’t feel that zing. But before there can be sparks, there have to be dates. And before the first date, you need to get over yourself! Taking a tough-love approach, and in her signature straight-shooting style, Patti will show you how to fix what needs to be fixed, reach your core, and identify who you are and what you want in a partner. She uses a three-part common-sense formula: • Getting Over What? Assess your dating weaknesses, recognize what’s not working, and adjust your expectations. Delve into your personal history and past relationships, and pinpoint the issues that have been holding you back. • Almost Over It Fine-tune your attitude, your look, and your behavior to maximize your dating chances. Novak lays out strategies to help you deal with the brutal dating monsters you find along the way. • Over It Learn the do’s and don’ts of the first date, the second date, and beyond. Remember, it’s not a job interview or therapy session. Pretend you’re meeting a new friend, not a prospective husband or wife. Finding your one and only isn’t about having the right shoes or a flat stomach. It’s about being true to yourself, being vulnerable, and being ready for love. Whether you’re new to the dating scene, divorced and looking, or just trying to reach that second date, Get Over Yourself! will help you get the love you’ve always wanted and deserve. Book Description: This is the incredible story of friendship brought about by the game of Bridge. Two young women meet when their children begin Kindergarten. Their story continues as told in this book. One has a fascination for Bridge and teaches her new friend the game. We learn about the four women that play together and the absolute fun they have. There is tragedy entwined at their game table. It also includes the husbands and children as a fun group over the years. They are from very different backgrounds which we learn little of, yet it is enough. However, one of the women has a background she is unwilling to share at all. In the end, we learn why. On a trip to celebrate their almost 30 year friendship, Kate and Simone fly to NYC to shop, see theater and enjoy wonderful restaurants. Naturally, the Bridge cards go along for 2-handed Bridge like these two have enjoyed during their friendship. On most of the journey they are playing in the airplane. During the trip, the past thirty years is remembered by Kate, the main character in the book who is narrating the story. Kate is thinking about the present, and the past, alternating between the two time-frames, going back, and then returning to the present; back and forth. Some she keeps to herself and some she discusses with Simone. One of the husbands is a wealthy philanthropic father of twins, murdered for no reason. His father-in-law, the Chief-of Police cant solve the crime and it goes cold. It was a brutal murder for no reason. There had been a stranger lurking they knew nothing about. The book spans Kates first marriage and takes you into her second. It takes you graphically into both bedrooms. This book does not fail to knock on any bedroom doors. In the end, much is learned about their friend that never wanted to share her past

Book Description: Robert Sawyer's SF novels are perennial nominees for the Hugo Award, the Nebula Award, or both. Clearly, he must be doing something right since each one has been something new and different. What they do have in common is imaginative originality, great stories, and unique scientific extrapolation. His latest is no exception. Hominids is a strong, stand-alone SF novel, but it's also the first book of The Neanderthal Parallax, a trilogy that will examine two unique species of people. They are alien to each other, yet bound together by the never-ending quest for knowledge and, beneath their differences, a common humanity. We are one of those species, the other is the Neanderthals of a parallel world where they, not Homo sapiens, became the dominant intelligence. In that world, Neanderthal civilization has reached heights of culture and science comparable to our own, but is very different in history, society, and philosophy. During a risky experiment deep in a mine in Canada, Ponter Boddit, a Neanderthal physicist, accidentally pierces the barrier between worlds and is transferred to our universe, where in the same mine another experiment is taking place. Hurt, but alive, he is almost immediately recognized as a Neanderthal, but only much later as a scientist. He is captured and studied, alone and bewildered, a stranger in a strange land. But Ponter is also befriended-by a doctor and a physicist who share his questing intelligence and boundless enthusiasm for the world's strangeness, and especially by geneticist Mary Vaughan, a lonely woman with whom he develops a special rapport. Meanwhile, Ponter's partner, Adikor Huld, finds himself with a messy lab, a missing body, suspicious people all around, and an explosive murder trial that he can't possibly win because he has no idea what actually happened. Talk about a scientific challenge! Contact between humans and Neanderthals creates a relationship fraught with conflict, philosophical challenge, and threat to the existence of one species or the other-or both-but equally rich in boundless possibilities for cooperation and growth on many levels, from the practical to the esthetic to the scientific to the spiritual. In short, Robert J. Sawyner has done it again. Hominids is the winner of the 2003 Hugo Award for Best Novel. Book Description: For public library clerk Diane Anderson, reading romance novels and living vicariously is far easier than attracting a flesh-and-blood man of her own. It seems she's too voluptuous in the wrong places to attract the kind of black man her mama requires as a son-in-law. . .and just exotic enough to attract the kind of white man Mama forbids. But there's something about that lost-looking guy who comes into the library one afternoon. And when he reveals that Diane is his muse, well, she can't help being intrigued. . . After months spent mourning a personal tragedy, novelist Jack Browning is struggling to get back to work. Under pressure to write his second novel, Jack hits the library for ideas. The clerk who helps him is smart, sassy--and curvy in all the right places. He finds himself thinking of Diane as he creates the heroine of his book. And soon, she's knocking down the wall he'd built around himself, becoming the inspiration for his art. . .and maybe even for his life. . . "Murray writes a gentle romance about cultural differences and deep commonalities in a unique tale about white-black relationships." --Booklist
