Er wurde in Indien als Kind britischer Eltern geboren und wurde somit sowohl durch das Christentum als auch durch die indische Glaubenswelt geprägt.Nachdem er seine spätere Tätigkeit als Bezirksrichter von Punjab beendete und in den Ruhestand ging, widmete er seine Zeit dem Verfassen esoterischer und metaphysischer Schriften. Thematisch verband er in ihnen die Lehren des Christentums, Hinduismus und Buddhismus und versuchte ihren gemeinsamen esoterisch-mystischen Kern herauszuarbeiten. Ungewöhnlich ist jedoch, dass er sich diesem Thema auf sehr rationale und logische Weise näherte, und somit einen gänzlich neuen Weg zum Verständnis der mystischen Esoterik eröffnete.Obwohl Thomas Troward im englischen Sprachraum immer noch als einer der herausragendsten Philosophen und Metaphysiker anerkannt wird, sind seine Werke bisher niemals in die deutsche Sprache übersetzt worden.
